Status check on Eaton. I still need to do some cleanup work turning absolute paths and stuff into config vars before I can release it. I’m calling the current version I’m using 0.3.1.
I’m pretty jazzed about Eaton — it’s working really well on my sites, and I’ve got some cool ideas for extensions.
The thing that bumped it from 0.3 to 0.3.1 is something I added recently: if you get a blacklist hit, add the remote IP address to the IP ban list. This is a tiny bit dangerous, in that false positives might occur, but in use on my site, I think it’s an overwhelming success.
I’ve done one run by hand where I take the URLs that subsequently come from those newly-banned IPs, sanitize and generalize them, and then add the result to the blacklist. That’s pretty cool, too, and needs to be turned into a utility.
More about Eaton next month! sooner or later. :-)
