You can tell the Bushies are getting desperate when they ask people like the Director of Central Intelligence to be the fall guy.
Some of the press are actually going along with the gag; the FOXNews.com headline right now is “Tenet Takes the Blame” for the bogus uranium innuendo in the President’s State of the Union address.
But if you read Tenet’s statement, it’s clear the CIA did not and would not have sourced the language in the President’s State of the Union address. They didn’t want the British to include the matter in their report. They didn’t include it in their own statements.
And in fact, they raised concerns about what had been written in the State of the Union address, and got some of the language changed. But they finally capitulated and “concurred that the text in the speech was factually correct” even though they wouldn’t say it themselves.
So now Tenet takes responsibility for letting the White House lie.
I want an Administration that doesn’t try to manipulate the truth in the first place.
