Bush Says So

The important issue isn’t whether or not we should go to war with Iraq. It’s what happened to our democratic decision process and why it has degenerated into “Bush says so.”

There are some big questions on my mind:

  • How can our economy recover from recession?

  • How can we keep America and ourselves safe from terrorists?
  • How can we assure our supplies of energy (not necessarily oil)?
  • How can America contribute to global prosperity and peace?
  • How can we preserve our democratic ideals and liberties?

President Bush’s “Let’s go kick Saddam out of Iraq” is not a good answer to any of these questions — and his blunt, bullying tactics make answers to most of them harder to find, not easier.

In a masterful sleight of hand, the Administration has misled the American people and Congress away from real issues into a debate about war with a little tyrant — and in the process, is hijacking America and its ideals to God knows where.

Shame on them.
