Keeping Kids From Slipping Through The Cracks

On a mailing list I’m on, Sandra posted, I’m a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for a young girl (15) and her brother (13) who are in foster care.

The idea is to help keep them from slipping through the cracks…but, really, what I think the most important thing I do, is having these kids know that there is someone who knows them, cares for them, who is not paid to do so. Someone who won’t bail on them. Someone who will take their calls at any hour. Someone who will listen to them and still spend time with them even when they make bad decisions. Someone who loves them and looks out for them when they can’t do it for themselves. I’ve been with these kids for over 3 yrs and I’ve been a CASA for over 6 or maybe 7 yrs. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done; it makes my life more meaningful.
