All You Need Is Love

In a post elsewhere, Daniel Berninger incidentally connected for me a number of threads I've been thinking of recently, with his opposition of "dominance" and "relationship" survival strategies. The threads include:
  • the problems of patriarchy
  • capitalism vs. post-capitalism
  • "the killer app is connectivity" (aka "you can't invent the network's killer app intentionally")
  • the advantages of groups of individuals (which form into "meta-brains")
and other stuff like decentralization, or my discomfort with the Bush Administration's dominance-based foreign policy. Berninger wrote,
The dominance strategy arises from a view of survival as a competition between the weak and strong. The relationship strategy arises from faith in the power of symbiotic relationships. Satan and God anchor the end points in the strategy spectrum. Mortals end up pursuing mixed strategies.
He also pointed to a previous essay he wrote on the topic, The Internet, Darwin, Love, and Dominance. Like Lennon and McCartney said, "All You Need Is Love." :-)
